My time in Jinja is flying by so quickly. I have settled into my daily routine of waking, having breakfast in the hotel garden, going to work, then spending time in the evening at my favorite local hangout The Office, where I can connect to WiFi, work on program assignments, chat with family and friends in the states, spend time meeting locals or meeting new friends here working, researching, or vacationing.
The atmosphere here is so laid back, and its large with an open air feel. The DJ plays fast beats from all over Africa, and on the many TVs soccer is playing. I was able to stay longer one night and play tricky trivia with two other research fellows from San Fransisco. I also met a girl from Germany who has been here for 11 months working at a private hospital, and is often visited by her sister who is working in Kenya.
These experiences are opening my eyes to just how worldly people actually are, and that I too can continue to travel/study/work in the months and years to come. I feel amazing to realize how comfortable I am here, and I can also, now, see myself going abroad more often. I love it! Everyone is interesting, and they love to share their own experiences, which really makes me know I can create these experiences for myself too!
