In writing your recommendation, please include the following:
How long you've known the applicant, and in what capacity;
How well acquainted you are with the quality of the applicant's work; If the applicant is currently in any of your courses, or in your lab/research group; What, if any, lab or research techniques the applicant has strengths in; your assessment of the applicant's general intelligence, academic abilities, ability to integrate information, creativity, perseverance, social adaptability.
Also please answer the following questions:
Why do you feel that this applicant would benefit from the MHIRT program? (The purpose of the mhirt program is to broaden cultural perspectives and encourage gifted minority students to consider a research career in the biomedical/behavioral sciences by entering a doctoral degree-granting program. The long-term goal of MHIRT is to increase minority faculty representation in the biomedical sciences.)
To your knowledge, are there any special circumstances -- financial, social or otherwise -- which you believe require consideration?
