Last week we made our first visit to the Bombo military base! We were able to see all of the impact of the Department of Defense (DoD) PEPFAR program over the last 12 years for the HIV clinic at the Bombo military hospital. The DoD HIV/AIDs Prevention Program (DHAPP) has been present in Uganda thanks to Dr. Brodine for the past 12 years (and counting!). The DHAPP program is based out of San Diego, California through the Naval Health Research Center. DHAPP oversees the PEPFAR project that supports HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care, strategic information, human capacity development, and program/policy development in the Ugandan military (UPDF). It was amazing to see the development of the HIV clinic over the years. The building, transportation, electronic medical records system, orphan/vulnerable children clinic, testing site, and so many other programs were funded over the years through DHAPP. It was amazing to see first hand all of the good work Dr. Brodine and DHAPP have done!
